Novel incoming. I'm also a caregiver. I support 2 elderly women with developmental disabilities and one of them has dementia and schizophrenia. They aren't my family by blood but they're my family. I say that to show I understand in a different way what it takes to be a caregiver. For what it's worth, you both are doing an incredible job. Working in this field, I see so many people who don't have families. Or rather, they have families but they aren't involved or have abandoned them decades ago. How I was raised, if something happened to family and needed care, that would come from me or someone else in the family. It was heartbreaking to me to see how many people needed support who's families "washed their hands" of them. Not to be confused with people who are like "Oh, this is alot and I need help caring for this family member." but straight up "this isn't my problem..." and they cut ties entirely. It's shattering to me. I admire your family. While the decision of "of course, that's my dad," seems like a no brainer it is a decision that alot of people choose to not make or not take part in. Your dad is so blessed to have family to help him navigate this part of life. Sending our love! Keep doing what you do and we will keep watching and supporting from afar ❤️
