when we adopted our dog they told us it takes 6 days to feel comfortable, 6 weeks to learn and get a routine down and then 6 months to figure out it’s their home

Some dogs need jobs that require a lot of training and stimulation. It’s totally okay if he’s not the dog for you! I promise no one is going to think badly of you if you come to the choice that he’s not the right fit for your family. Dogs are hard, and honestly sometimes the worst thing you can do is keep a dog if you aren’t able to give him what he needs. It can cause a lot of behavioral issues. I grew up around dogs that needed jobs, it’s not something they can turn off, and if that not someone you can commit to, no one will be mad for you giving the dog the life he needs to be successful and happy. I promise any reputable shelter/breeder understands that all dogs have different needs and not every person can take a dog who needs hours of mental/physical stimulation a day.

Girl I adopted my first ever dog in July and was so worried to be in a similar situation. It’s so hard when you work full time cause there isn’t time to train a puppy but you also never know what you get with a shelter dog. It did work out for me, I’m sorry you’re having a rough time. Idk how long you’ve had him but I’d say if you look at the 3:3:3 rule after like 4 months just do your due diligence and find him a better fitting home. There shouldn’t be shame in just being the wrong fit

have you considered doggy day care? we did that for my dog when we was a puppy and it changed everything for us! she learned to socialize and also played a lot which wore her out by the time she got home. maybe consider that?

I totally get that! We’ve done two different sleepovers with our local shelter. We have two other dogs at home and several cats. Our first dog we had stay over was a foster fail and we kept him. Thought the second dog would also stay with us. She was a wonderful dog but we were afraid of her reactiveness towards our other pets. And overall decided she wasn’t for our family. And I cried, I felt like I failed this dog. But she ended up going home with a different family. So I get it, but he’ll find his family too. ❤️❤️

Happy Friday gorgeous girl!! About the puppy, you have done (from what I’ve heard) everything right!! If it’s not the dog for you, it’s not the dog for you! Sounds like he needs a job to be stimulated so at the very least you have socially prepared him for being a service dog or bite work dog, something like that! Not your fault, and you aren’t a failure if you rehome him, there’s such a stigma and it’s not true. You’ve given him love and food and a home and THAT is a win!! Only YOU can make that decision and no one else is going to understand the situation except for you and your husband. Sending good vibes ❤️

Getting a new dog is so hard. We just got a puppy the same breed as our dog that passed almost 2 years ago. And I just keep comparing this puppy to our other dog. It’s so frustrating cause I just feel like this isn’t my dog 😭

It’s only shady if rehoming pets becomes a hobby essentially. Rehoming a pet for the betterment of everyone involved is perfectly normal. I had rescued a cat that was refusing to eat because she hated my other animals, she would bite “lovingly” on people 24/7, and she had to stay locked up or she’d pee on everything because of stress. She was rehomed through a rescue group and she’s now a spoiled princess. No need to feel like a failure

I think it’s really hard once you’ve had a great dog. Our dog was a rescue at 6 months old- he came fully house broken, no major behavioral issues. We’ve had to work with him on jumping and reacting to the cats, but he bonded to our kids right away and he’s so chill when we’re not home. Causes no trouble. We tried to add another dog and failed TWICE. I guess we’re a one dog family which makes me sad but I’m counting my blessings with our boy

Aw he probably got put for adoption for the same problems your having ??🥺 but it would definitely be up to you on how you would want to go about it with the doggy, but it’s his first time living too 🥲

we had to re-home a dog once before, and I battled it for so long out of fear of judgement from others and my own harshness on myself. it was the best choice i could have made for myself and him!!

So I got a 12 week old puppy back in July and I cried everyday for over a month. She was and high key still is a terror. BUT I promised her I wouldn’t give up on her and I haven’t. Taking her to daycare 2-3 times a week has been a heaven sent. She gets socialized with other pups and she gets her energy out. If you have any doggy daycare near you I would test it out
