@npr: A federal judge has blocked construction on President Trump’s proposed 250-foot triumphal arch in Washington, D.C. — right after a panel had told the administration it could proceed with the project. The National Capital Planning Commission voted to approve the arch on Thursday night, after a marathon nine-hour meeting with testimony from over 100 concerned citizens. The Trump administration said it could begin construction that same day, despite an ongoing legal challenge by Vietnam War veterans and the governments of Virginia and D.C. They asked District Judge Tanya Chutkan to intervene. She did just shy of midnight, with an order blocking construction for 14 days. Find “NPR News Now” wherever you listen to podcasts.
