LAX runway is 13,000 feet while SNA John Wayne is only about 5,300. Longer runway gives longer stopping distance for a disabled engine or otherwise reduced reverse thrust to slow the plane.

I don’t think that’s the case both airports have emergency services, I’m going to assume the reason for LAX is that they’re heavy (fuel) and runway length needed. SNA very short, LAX very long 🤙🏼

Aircraft Dispatcher here! John Wayne runway is too short for the amount of stopping distance needed. When a commercial airliner loses an engine, it has to land at a faster than normal speed to keep the aircraft from stalling. This and being heavy just adds more onto the stopping distance needed for a safe landing. LAX was a great decision in this case and the crew did a great job. Pilots train for these types of scenarios all the time.

i’m not a good flyer especially with all the stuff happening lately 😭 and yall always say “well there’s over 100k flight a day look at car crashes🤓” if the plane is cooked then that’s it you can avoid it
