@yacht_buoy: She is rated for winds beyond Force 8 and seas of 4 metres and more, yet she carries only 3,200 litres of fuel. This is Aegir, a 2003 Vripack Searocco 1500, a Dutch steel trawler yacht for sale in Sneek in the Netherlands. Her design comes from Vripack, the Sneek studio Dick Boon founded in 1961, whose research vessel Turmoil, now Pioneer, became the first yacht to run the Northwest Passage. Aegir is built in steel to CE Category A, the EU design category for offshore passages, with a fine, flared bow, high rails, opening gates and side decks drawn for moving about safely at sea. She is round-bilged with a box keel, and hydraulic fin stabilisers help keep her steady underway. Her owner invested a huge amount in her between 2023 and 2025: Kabola diesel central heating, a full electrical overhaul, twin Simrad NSS9 displays, new stainless shafts, a new windlass and 100 metres of stainless anchor chain. Twin Volvo Penta diesels give her an 8-knot cruise, and a hydraulic mast lowers her air draft to 3.60 metres for the European canals. Below decks, she has two en-suite cabins, each with a 2-metre double berth, plus 2 metres of headroom in the saloon and a washer/dryer, so she would make a lovely liveaboard explorer yacht for a couple. She is for sale at €489,000 VAT paid (approx. $546,000 / £407,900). So why so little fuel for a gale-rated boat? I explain in my video tour and write-up in my free explorer yacht newsletter. Link in my bio. Can you guess why? Tell me below. #boattok #yachttok #vripack #steeltrawler #liveaboard
