@itsjillianrowe: Congratulations to Harmeet Dhillon, who oversaw the departure of more than 75% of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division workforce and then announced she’d accomplished what she came to Washington to do. 🥳 Ma’am. Accomplished WHAT? Donald Trump appointed Dhillon to lead the division responsible for enforcing federal civil rights protections. And under her leadership, the department abandoned voting rights litigation, walked away from police reform efforts, and redirected resources toward investigating alleged discrimination against white Americans. Because apparently THAT was the pressing civil rights emergency. And just to be clear, civil rights protect EVERYONE. Women, racial minorities, religious minorities, people with disabilities, and yes, white people too. The question is why an agency responsible for enforcing all those protections was abandoning established enforcement efforts while its experienced attorneys were leaving in droves. Susan B. Anthony was arrested for voting. Ida B. Wells risked her life exposing racial violence. Generations of Americans fought to secure protections that the federal government is supposed to enforce. And Harmeet Dhillon says she’s satisfied with her work. Well, congratulations on the resignation, I guess.
