That would have had me cackling like loon. I was at a Bead show some years ago now. I'm standing at an AA woman's stall. She's selling beads and bracelet patterns & kits. I asked her if a particular sample would go with my coloring. I was called the 'translucent one' by a very dark AA coworker years ago. The bead lady stalled a bit in answering. Then politely said "no ma'am. Your melanin challenged". I am laughing as I write this. As I did after she said it. What snappy comeback. Loved & admired the quick thinking wit. You betcha I bought beads from her, several times over the years.
