And by the way, you don’t need to own 51% of the shares. You just need enough to be able to call a board meeting and ask for a vote. I think it’s around 10% shares or so. Different countries have different rules anyway. But once you can call a board meeting and get majority votes you can vote out a ceo and even get yourself elected as the substantive ceo. The idea is to figure out who the major shareholders are who can give you that 51% vote and get them to side with you before the voting happens.

hostile takeovers work oh. if you study the period in the early 2000's when Dangote and otedola were at odds, Dangote tanked a few businesses linked to otedola and dumping the stocks. did the same thing to BUA too. it is paramount in the banking sector today.

That's a proper perspective about how the market works. The markets in the country are individually concentrated and no one can wake up and take on an entity suo motu.

GTCO / GT Bank can actually buy Dangote Cement if they want to. They don’t necessarily have to be in the same industry. Banks own companies all the time everywhere in the world. They would just control it via a subsidiary. Private Banks are notorious for this. Same goes for Investment Banks. Commercial Banks also do the same but at a smaller scale compared to these other ones.
