Car-Part.com first, then your local pull-it yards — and the smart money buys the whole running donor car for the same $900–$2,500 a bare engine costs, because you hear it run cold and you get the heavy-duty transmission, computer and harness with it. Bare engines run $500–$1,000 from owner reports; a remanufactured long block lists at $2,949. Check the blower coupler rattle at idle (cheap part — bargaining chip, not a deal-breaker) and the oil cap for milky goo before money moves.
