So the guy wasn’t at his job for several days and nobody was concerned?

He's responsible for approving the leave of 70+ employees? That's a guy who has been saying yes to things he hasn't paid attention to.

The manager should have really documented this conversation. Just an email saying here is what we just discussed on the phone. He had too many "I don't remember"s for me.

Seems like a simple phone call could have resolved this when he “no showed” the first day or two. Employee’s responsibility for not contacting HR for sure, but why was there no follow up?

I don't understand how someone thinks they can go on a leave with only a mention to the boss

What I don’t understand is didn’t people try to contact him when he didn’t show up?? Surely there’s a process for this

The manager sounds a bit like he’s covering his back on this by being very unknowing…

Sounds like the GM is on the hook for this one. Because 76 employees isn't THAT many. How many of those employees came to him asking for emergency leave for a family emergency and needing to move because of that? I don't believe that there were that many employees who have that exact situation for the GM to forget. Maybe I'm wrong, but there's something not right here with the GM.

There seem to be a lot of people who don't know what is going on there. I'm guessing some new communication policies come out of all this.

The fact that the employee didn’t even know he was terminated is the most bizarre part. They didn’t provide him any notice or even reach out when he wasn’t showing up???

Are they using AI for termination overall? That’s why there’s no oversight of it?

yeah that manager dropped the ball.
he knew he was o.eave or people would have been asking where he was.

This is just a ball of fun, eh! He wasn’t out for a legit reason to get FMLA, so maybe he’s hired back but no back pay?

Way too many ppl for one person! As a manager myself if i told you who to speak to and you didnt listen, that is on you! You are an adult! Granted i would of given them a link for more info and how to find number. But its on the adult to take action. Do not ever assume someone is going to do it for you. Ive only opened one myself because person was in hospital but actually getting the paperwork and approved is on them. I have no say on the approvals process

what a mess that direct manager and the fired guy did not know about termination. and authomatic termination is just brutal. one phonecall and the misunderstanding would be solved. of course the guy is just clueless as far as leave is concerned but still...
