Practically my whole family has worked in the Texas Education system, the flipping of the state board of education was one of the most exciting parts of Tuesday night! 💕

Oh we are about to fix our voting issues to ensure we stay blue. What does that mean for the electorate- between Texas, California, and New York that totals 45.2% going to the dems for the news 12-15 years. We really are on the horizon of something bigger in the US.

The flipping of state and local elections…. These massive changes will be felt in our schools. 💙🥰 I’m so hopeful for our children that we can make some good changes.

That is absolutely fabulous! Also the Electoral College cannot swing Republican if Texas stays blue!

I was just explaining to my mom how the dumb-down of education comes from the publishing of text books that come from Texas

You're the first person I've seen bring up this race and I'm SO relieved. I'm more worried about the Board's impact on libraries. 💙

What a revaluation! This is epic! Explains a lot about the deficits of my early education. I am so in favour of stopping the dumbing down of our children. Thank you!

I remember my 5th teacher told us the basics about why all (almost all?) school texts came out of Texas, so she and other teachers had to explain why certain parts of our books needed 'extra' discussions, that explanation stuck with me since the '50s, thank you

This was one of the most amazing outcomes to me as well! I’ve never even been near Texas, but I was educated as a sociologist, and the Texas Effect on textbooks was something we studied. I was in grad school when Thomas Jefferson was taken out of Texas Social Studies for being too progressive. The guy that WROTE THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE!!! Out of Texas classrooms!! This flip is HUGE!!

Go read the coverage of the 1974 midterms in the Times. Look for the issue around Nov 5, 1974. While you’re reading it also read about the Shah. The entire thing shows why we cannot make the same mistakes that were made with Nixon.

I’m hoping this flip means the state will stop pushing the Bluebonnet “curriculum”. I also hope they stop the social studies TEKS changes 🤞

All that is fine and dandy, don’t get me wrong. But if we keep pushing students through to the next grade even if they failed then this won’t matter. We need to stop the no child left behind BS
