He has been diagnosed with CIRD (Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease), which has not responded to medication. He is now also exhibiting mild ataxia (loss of coordination), and a neurology consultation may be needed. Max requires additional medical assessment and treatment beyond what Dallas Animal Services is able to provide. Max is currently at risk for euthanasia due to his medical needs and requires placement as soon as possible. Medical 10/13/26: Adoption Exam Completed Altered: No Tattoo/Scar: No Rabies given in RR leg Flea and Heartworm Prevention given; Pyrantel given PO Blood sample pulled to perform heartworm test: High positive Microchip Implanted: 941010006073016 10/24/26: Dog is slightly depressed, coughing and has nasal discharge. Dry food in the kennel remains untouched. Currently receiving doxycycline as part of heartworm treatment. 10/25/26: Exam: QAR, MM pale pink, CRT <2 sec Mild dehydration BCS 5/9 EENT - Mucoid nasal discharge bilaterally. ORAL - Normal dentition, gingiva. No oral lesions noted. H/L - Normal auscultation, no murmur or arrhythmia noted. Eupneic ABD - Tense, non-painful. INTEG - Healthy coat, no lesions noted M/S - Normal gait, no soft tissue swelling or abnormal ROM noted NEURO - Brief neuro exam unremarkable QAR with fever, concern for progressive CIRD vs open clindamycin INJ given SQ fluids - 750 mL given Carprofen INJ given Rx clindamycin, recheck in 3 days to ensure eating and improving 10/27/26: The dog is bright, alert, and responsive . Administered DA2PP booster vaccine as scheduled. 11/04/26: Alert. Good appetite. Heart and lungs normal. Bilateral crusty nasal discharge still present. Noted that he appears to be a little ataxic on when walking up to kennel door. He started to shake his ears and almost fell down in his hindquarters. Slightly delayed proprioception in both rear legs. Sedated with Dexdormitor (.5mg/ml) .9cc IM. DX: Xray (RL & VD View Cervical Spine, Thoracolumbar Spine and Pelvis)=No significant abnormalities detected on rads. A: Mild ataxia noted along with URI Signs P: Will collect PCR RX: Enrofloxacin 136mg 2T SID 7 days RX: Carprofen 100mg 1T SID 3 days Collected PCR May need to be referred to a veterinary neurologist for further diagnostics for the mild ataxia. Reversed sedation with Atipamezole (5mg/ml) .45cc IM Recheck in place: 11/07/26 Owner Surrender Notes 10/12/26: ASO arrived at location and observed a loose dog in front of listed address. ASO confirmed with landlord that the dog belonged to the tenant. ASO was able to contact owner who informed they had been evicted and were trying to rehome the dog. Owner verbally surrendered dog and dog was transported to DAS. Shelter Observations 10/14/26: He's shy, does not growl, just looks at you will come to kennel door if you open it. 11/04/26: Max is very sweet - when he saw the leash he quickly got up and was eager to go outside. He did have moments where he would slip a bit when walking. Allowed handling with no issues. Playgroup Assessment 10/21/26: PG 1 Social , DG - DAINTY & GENTLE This dog is tolerant, allows greets, and keeps to self.
