It's the Law. They don't have a choice but to pay you if it's mandatory and if your driving to and from that has to be paid time but if your a passenger no pay is required. Just call the US Dept. of Labor after you finish the class and they will make sure everyone get paid and you will get whistle blower protection and with you asking ?s like that you'll need it sooner than later.

your on the clock for anything mandatory. you are working and that gets paid, someone in the office is trying to cheat every one.. and i bet it goes higher in the ranks then anyone thinks including your city officials.

You honestly should have had your EMT prior to any paid or volunteer job. Thats mostly a prerequisite and is at the beginning of your career. Becoming a professional paid firefighter takes sacrifice and having a 3k$ EMT class paid for you and helping your career track doesnt sound like you should be complaining.
