I’m extremely happy for Abdul, with all the ululations and all this nonsense. Come on, man. He’s not your cousin getting married for you to celebrate him like this. This is someone whose number one priority is defending American interests. One of his earliest statements was that U.S. military aid to Egypt should be stopped because it strengthens the military, and apparently he doesn’t like that. The guy wants Egypt’s military to be weak. And what’s his argument? Dictatorship. So what? Let’s weaken the military so that whoever wants to take over can take over, and whoever wants to attack can attack!!!!! But the question we really need to ask is: Do you understand that Egypt is not just a government receiving money? It is a country with volatile borders, surrounded by a region full of conflicts, and with a military whose primary role is to protect its national security? And do you understand that this aid is part of a broader military and political relationship that has existed since the Camp David Accords, and that ending it is not simply about saving a little money in the U.S. budget? People, disagreeing with any political system is one thing. Dealing with a country’s security and its people’s interests is something completely different. Not everyone who says a few words about democracy and human rights deserves a parade and a celebration!
