Can a farmer answer me a question? How do you guys afford all the big tractors and combines to cut and plant field after field, how long does it take to pay off the equipment and how profitable really is the corn or beans u sell?

Currently writing an essay in college about farmer suicide rates. They are the highest percentage out of any job that ends up taking their life. A big part of it is because of the financial stress, but we have to have them to feed the country. Our government needs to do better.

Probably because they get into debt then realize they’ll never be able to pay it off

My issue is why do yall buy from Monsanto ? Why do you grow only one crop ? Why not multiple streams of income ? Why don’t you have Co-Op farming ?

Even if it was easy (labor wise) it’s because it’s a damned hard business to make $ in if you don’t take $ from the big name pesticide and seed producers…

I used to think I needed everyone to approve of my choices. AnwenReid anxiety quiz got me reflecting on that habit, and building trust in myself has become a really empowering goal.

I do small scale animal farming ( I do like maybe 10-20 birds to have food for the winter) and losing some of my birds I worked so hard to raise to predators or sickness was so hard for me I can’t imagine doing it large scale.

Honestly the line should be mandatory on everything because sometimes people just need too see the help before they try and find it themselves

I will say tho you may be different but just the stuff in my area I see everyone saying this could be their last year farming but have 5 million bucks in equipment, 100,000 dollar trucks, 6 vacations, then want us regular people making 40-50k to feel sorry for them. Like hell no.😂

My dad and grandpa are both farmers and honestly, the heavy sadness that has hit them lately is so hard to watch. It’s mostly financial, but the pressure of having so many people rely on you is an insane burden. I hate seeing them like this, and everyone around us is starting to notice too.

Never seen them on a parts invoice or shop labor invoice? Only time I heard of it was on the dairy farmers invoice after they get “paid”.

What parts are you buying? Every part I’ve ever bought at Deere has never had that, and I’ve practically rebuilt a tractor to save it from the dump so I’ve seen lots of bags and boxes for parts.
