So I’ve always wondered, what would happen to licensing (like nursing, cosmetology, barbering, etc.) if this did happen. As someone with a cosmetology license would I have to switch my license to whatever state they forced us to join or if they decided to become a whole new state would I have to wait to get a new license for that new state? And would I have to pay? Would I have to go take a new test? How do you think it would affect these types of licenses that are required to practice in a certain state?

Removing Cook Co and its 5 collar counties, rest of Illinois generates 4-5.7 billion in taxes. It cost those counties $11-$13 billion a year just to keep it afloat as is right now with the taxes as they are.

i get that rural illinois resents chicago and they’ve valid concerns, but wisconsin gave up that entire territory to allow illinois to become a state. you could give it back?

Excuse my ignorance. But if there is something in the constitution to show a pathway to make it happen, isn’t it absolutely possible? I do not know anyone who thinks voting on the referendums is a quick hey this chunk of land is going to another state. However showing the government how unhappy certain people are and how “unheard” people feel by voting is exactly the way it should work. And you are right, the quick way to get out of Illinois is to just leave. Many of these unhappy people do not want to leave the land that their family has been working for decades. My family is ready to leave but trying to get everything set up all at once is a nightmare. Right now my parents live 12 minutes away, my sister across the street, brother 30 mins away and nephew 15 minutes. The important thing is that we are all together. So why not vote to show our discontent and let the government decide if the people of this country matter. When people leave the country because of them not wanting to fix the problems, they are taking an easy way out.

“Southern Illinois” would be the poorest, most uneducated state in the country if we did this. Just plain stupidity coming from people who are mad they have to pay $7,000 in annual property tax.
