@viceroy_ash: something interesting happened in the treasury department this last october, a proponent of returning to the gold standard for monetary discipline for it's own sake was appointed to a counsel position. Meanwhile, the central banks around the world have been on a decade's long gold buying spree holding more gold than US treasury bonds for the first time in history from what I hear, likely a sign that the world is losing trust in the US's ability to pay it's debts. And while more countries like Japan were also off loading US treasuries and other nations were getting out of the dollar from global tension and sanctions, we are facing a time when the dollar could lose it's status as the world's reserve currency, and we would lose so many benefits from that status. Personally, I would like to see the US return to the gold standard because it beats the heck out of runaway fiscal spending, runaway deficits, one trillion dollar interest payments on the 40 trillion dollar national debt, and hyperinflation to pay down that debt any day of the week. *disclaimer: This is not financial advice.
