@newyorkcitykopp: New York City, it’s here! 🎄 The @Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree has arrived after a 200-mile trip from West Edmeston, New York—and what a sight! This 76-foot Norway spruce measures 50 feet across and weighs about 11 tons. Carl Camenga planted it with his young son, Wade, in the early 1970s. It’s now beginning a new chapter in the heart of New York City. Tomorrow, a crane will lift it into place at Rockefeller Center. Crews will decorate it with more than 50,000 multicolored LED lights along about five miles of wire, topped by the famous Swarovski star. The tree lighting ceremony is Wednesday, December 2. The Rockefeller Center tree tradition began in 1931, when construction workers pooled their money for a small tree and decorated it with handmade garlands. The first official lighting ceremony followed in 1933. After the holidays, this tree’s wood will be donated to Habitat for Humanity. A family planted it, and now it’s ready to bring holiday magic to New York City and visitors from around the world. 💫 #nyc #fyp #christmas #newyork #rockefellercenter
