Away from the turmoil of the Seven Kingdoms, her days were filled with the rituals and pleasures of courtly life, almost as though the war consuming her family belonged to another world. While her siblings and other members of House Targaryen faced battles, death and the destruction of their home, Rhaena remained in the relative safety of the Vale. Its distance from the conflict allowed her to experience a very different side of the Dance, one far removed from the bloodshed and desperation that defined those years. She was still a Targaryen, still connected to a family being torn apart by war, but for a time she could live like a young noblewoman surrounded by admiration, attendants and privilege. There is something almost Marie Antoinette-like about this chapter of Rhaena's life: the beautiful gowns, the attention, the leisurely days and the sheltered world of aristocratic luxury, set against a kingdom descending into chaos.
