@outsidennv: Imagine being on this boat at Lake Mead! 💦✈️ 🛶 I caught this on March 9, 2024, from the overlook area high above Hemenway Harbor. It actually startled us at first—we heard the sound of the engine and weren't sure if we were watching a plane land or a plane about to crash! But the engine sounded steady, and it landed real smooth. To us, it looked like it was really close to the boats. But maybe it was just our perspective Since it was my first time ever seeing this, I was curious about how it works: * This is an amphibious light-sport aircraft (an ICON A5). It’s basically a "flying boat" with a hull-shaped belly and a top-mounted engine to keep the propeller away from water spray. * Is this legal? Yes! Lake Mead is one of the few open bodies of water in Nevada where seaplane landings are perfectly legal. * The Rules: Once those tires retract and it touches the water, it legally becomes a boat. The pilot has to follow standard maritime boating right-of-way rules alongside the weekend wakeboarders. Such an awesome, unexpected thing to catch on camera. Have you ever seen a seaplane landing up close? 👇 #LakeMead #HemenwayHarbor #Seaplane #outsideinnevada #fishing
