For the past 11 years, Reggie has been the biggest cheerleader for everyone in Bananaland. He’s made everyone around him feel special. On this night, we gave him the stage to start the show. Before we ever played our first game back in 2015, he called every week asking for a job. When he finally showed up that spring at the job fair, he brought that big smile we’ve all come to love. He was immediately hired and became the biggest energy giver on our team. He’s done just about every job at this stadium. Taken out the trash. Worked concessions. Greeted fans. Whatever needed to be done, Reggie showed up and gave everything he had. Then, on his birthday a few years ago, we introduced him in the starting lineup and gave him his first jersey. I’ll never forget him standing beside our players on the line with a tear rolling down his cheek. He stayed in the dugout that entire night, cheering them on and pumping them up. After the game, the players came to me. “Jesse, we want Reggie to be a coach.” “A coach?” “He brought so much energy and we felt like we were playing for him.” That’s how Reggie became our motivational coach. He started making his special “Regginade,” which is just water, ice and Gatorade. He started giving pep talks before every game. When we won the championship his first year as coach, the players handed him the trophy and started chanting his name. Now he travels the country with us. Every night, he’s making his Regginade, firing up the players, signing autographs and sharing that same big smile with fans. And for our first Banana Ball playoff game in Savannah, I got to stand beside him as he led “Show Starts Now.” Watching him dance and take that stage, I thought about all those phone calls before our first season. That first jersey. That tear. That trophy. And all the people he’s lifted up along the way. Reggie, I’m so proud of what we’ve done together. You’ve given this organization your heart for 11 years, and you’re still giving us everything you have. We call you “The Legend” here in Bananaland. This night, everyone got to see why.
