@the_gardenerben: Planting a bare root rose into a container or pot Welcome to my step-by-step guide containing loads of information to make sure that you get the best from your new plant baby First make sure that you choose the correct size and style of container a shrub of a round of 3 to 4 feet in height is going to need a minimum pot size of 45 to 50 cm in diameter and around 55 to 60 cm deep. It needs this to be able to support the large amount of flowers you expected to produce during the summer months. Roses are deep rooted. They require a lot of water and an awful lot of feed. please don’t be tempted to pop them into smaller pots thinking you’re going to repot them in a years time. They are far better being placed into their final size to containers and allowing themselves to establish occupying the full size of the pot. it is also not advisable to plant more than one rose in a container at any time they will simply compete with each other and instead of forming one large strong plant you’ll end up with several Spindley weaker plants which are often susceptible to pest and disease problems My personal suggested compost blend here is around 75% Jon innings number three which is a loam based compost mixed with around 25% soil conditioner home-made garden compost or all well rotted horse manual. It needs to be at least 2 to 3 years old Make sure that you put plenty of broken terracotta pots or small stones at the bottom to keep the drainage hole of the pot open and running freely and that you follow my guide to storage unpackaging and rehydrating your bare root Rose before you plant Save this video for later, so you know where to find it when you need to refer back to it and consider watching any of my other planting tutorials which include planting a climbing rose under a tree a wall or fence and into the garden As always, if you have any questions, leave me a comment below #gardenerben #pantingguide #growwithme #roses #containergarden
