I don’t think there’s an issue with brand having Diwali parties and inviting creators. The main issue is a majority of creators invited to these events only portray the Indian community when it’s come to Diwali. They are quiet when it comes to spreading awareness of issues going on our community. This might not be applicable to your own personal brand but you’re unfortunately grouped together with these individuals.

I feel there are some per se trying to divide these festivities, e.g 'we dont celebrate diwali..we celebrate blah blah..' if u are an influencer content creator you have done this from bottom top as a choice for career and making ends meet. we all have a backbone, we promote, we celebrate, we embrace

There wouldn't be negativity if influencers were talking more about what Diwali is rather than just using these events for posing, wearing lavish outfits and drinking. Every year nothing changes, same old responses and defensiveness.

think we are not used to seeing our traditions/ celebrations be commercialised in the west like Christmas has been and it has made ppl uncomfortable/ question it. some of these brands doing it for business reasons & don't do anything else for us or show genuine interest while others do make an effort. would call it growing pains as our culture evolves

Sometimes I feel we could do more to celebrate and support the success of our own community. Influencers like yourselves have worked incredibly hard to earn these opportunities, and your success should inspire others to see what’s possible for them too.
Watching your behind-the-scenes content the other day really opened my eyes to how much hard work, preparation and dedication goes into these events, not just beforehand but throughout the entire day. People often see the beautiful content without realising the effort that goes on behind the scenes.
I genuinely believe we should shift our mindset from comparison to inspiration. Rather than focusing on what others have achieved, let’s celebrate their success, learn from their journey and use it as motivation for our own. There’s room for everyone to succeed! ❤️

This is the nuance that’s missing from the conversation! Would I love to see these brands represent and recognise us year around? Yes. But, as you say, it’s about taking the step and there’s a difference between celebrating community and culture vs. the religious element (which shouldn’t be what brands want to commercialise).

It is a difficult one. culture is changed now the way they celebrate Diwali, Navratri or other festivals. It should be like christmas🎄 Have Diwali 🪔 parties like Christmas parties but also keep the tradition to celebrate at home with family as we do with Christmas. Best of both!!!

As someone who grew up where there was no representation and people didn't know about our costumes and traditions, I'm so glad there's social media and influencers like you showcasing our culture! It's because of such work that big brands are recognising South Asians and becoming inclusive 👏
