EV CHARGING: A FEW THINGS TO CLEAR UP! 😂
Since the comments keep coming, let's clear a few things up!
1. HOME CHARGING
Yes, home charging is considerably cheaper. I've never disputed that. But not everyone has a driveway or the option to install a charger. Plenty of drivers, particularly in London, rely on public charging.
2. WHERE DID MY PRICES COME FROM?
Zapmap's UK Charging Price Index, October 2026:
- Standard charging: 54p/kWh
- Rapid charging: 82p/kWh
These are average public pay-as-you-go prices, not figures I've plucked out of thin air! :P
3. CHEAPER CHARGING DEALS
Absolutely, there are cheaper tariffs and memberships available. But prices vary depending on the network, location, membership and time of day. They're not guaranteed to be available to everyone.
4. TIME IS MONEY!
Cheaper charging doesn't remove the time spent waiting. For private hire drivers, that's potentially lost earnings.
As the Goblin in WoW says: "Time is money, friend!" 😂
5. THE 2028 MILEAGE CHARGE
From April 2028, the planned charge is 3p per mile for fully electric cars and 1.5p for plug-in hybrids.
THE POINT?
I'm not saying EVs are always more expensive. I'm looking at the reality for drivers who cannot charge at home, using average public charging prices and factoring in the time spent charging.
That's what the video is about. 🙂
