★★★★★ The Floridian – Anastasia Island, St. Augustine, Florida Stopped in at The Floridian while we were in St. Augustine, and I’ll tell you what, this place knows how to put together a good meal. The menu isn’t huge, but there’s a lot going on with it. Some really interesting dishes, great combinations of ingredients, and plenty of flavor. You can tell there’s some thought going into what’s coming out of that kitchen. We sat outside in the courtyard, which was a nice surprise. You’re right off a busy road, but you really don’t notice the traffic. It was comfortable, quiet, and a good place to sit and enjoy a meal. The staff was excellent. Everyone was friendly, and our waitress was especially good. One thing I noticed while we were there really stood out. The place was busy, and she had forgotten to put in an order for two guys sitting at a table near us. Instead of making excuses or blaming the kitchen, she walked right over and told them exactly what happened. She’d gotten busy, forgot to put their order in, and apologized. The guys were busy talking and didn’t even seem bothered by it. I respect that kind of honesty. Everybody makes mistakes. It’s how you handle them that matters. As for the food, we ordered the kimchi curry soup. It was a hot day, probably not the kind of weather you’d normally order soup in, but I’m glad we did. It was outstanding. Rich, full of flavor, and just a really well-made dish. Everything else we saw coming out of the kitchen looked just as good. Good food, good service, and people who seem to take pride in what they’re doing. That’s what I look for in a restaurant. The Floridian gets five stars from The Jerry Z Report.
