You’ve probably heard that it takes 10,000 hours to master something, but what if you could improve at something in 1/2 the time by changing one thing? 👇👇 Last summer, I took two exams that both estimated I’d need to study for 120 hours to pass. The first took me 170. The second took me 70, and I only did one thing differently. The thing I changed is explained in Malcolm Gladwell’s Outliers, and it’s the rate that I received feedback in (called a feedback loop). The principle is simple: the faster you can receive feedback, the faster you can improve. In preparing for Exam 2, I started doing practice problems before I felt ready, forgetting about how detailed my notes were. Every wrong answer was a tiny feedback loop, I just had to get over my pride to accept getting more wrong at first (easier said than done, tbh). This goes beyond studying for exams; there’s examples of feedback loops all around you: - chefs tasting food as they go - athletes scrimmaging instead of just watching film - and a million more Whether you love learning or hate it, feedback loops are a great way to speed it up. I learn new things (like the CPA exams 😩) and then post everything I figure out. Follow along if you want to see more content like this 🙂 & I’ll see you tomorrow as always 🫡 (REPOST)
