@comprehensive.update: Scott Hoying Wrote A Musical About The Gr*m Reaper’s Daughter, And He Says He Likes It More Than Pop Pentatonix singer Scott Hoying is making his musical theater debut as a writer. The show is called GRIM. It opens at the La Jolla Playhouse in California on Sunday, Nov. 8, and runs through Dec. 13. The story is about the Gr*m Reaper retiring. His daughter, Diana, gets ready to take over the job. Hoying, 35, says it started over six years ago. He saw Joey Orton’s parody show and loved it. He told Orton and his co-writers, Brad Silnutzer and Petro AP, he would love to write with them. Then the pandemic happened. The four started writing TikToks and “silly songs” that went viral. Hoying says they had an “electric kind of chemistry.” Orton suggested a musical about the Gr*m Reaper. Hoying said, “Let’s start today.” They wrote the opening number that same day. Then they met on Zoom every day for a year and wrote the whole show. Hoying told PEOPLE he likes musical theater writing more than pop songwriting. “It’s more ridiculous and free in a way,” he said. “You can say anything.” One song is called “D*eath and Taxes.” Hoying says Diana obsesses over taxes in the song, and the audience loves it. For opening night, he plans to go to the after party and dance. He says he kept the scripts and binders from every workshop, and he might bring them along. Would you go see a musical about the Gr*m Reaper? #Scott #rapper #pentatonix #celebrity #Musical
