Ever find yourself yawning excessively before a migraine attack? 🥱 That might actually be your brain entering the prodrome phase of migraine! 🧠 Why? The hypothalamus, a region involved in regulating sleep, hunger, hormones and other automatic bodily functions, is thought to play an important role in the early phases of migraine. Brain imaging studies have demonstrated changes in hypothalamic activity during migraine attacks, including before the headache begins. 🥱 But why the yawning? One proposed explanation involves dopamine, a neurotransmitter involved in regulating yawning and several other brain functions. Changes in dopaminergic signaling may contribute to excessive yawning during the migraine prodrome, although the exact mechanism hasn’t been fully established. And here’s what’s interesting: excessive yawning can occur hours before the headache begins, sometimes alongside fatigue, food cravings, mood changes or neck stiffness. 💖 The takeaway: A migraine attack doesn’t necessarily begin when the headache starts. Your brain may already be experiencing changes long before the pain arrives! Do YOU notice excessive yawning before your migraine attacks? 👇 ⚠️ This content is for educational and informational purposes only.
