When I told the five year old I nanny my dog had passed, that I had for seventeen years and was the love of my life, she said, and I quote, “what? Now I’m sad, I only got to hang out with her a couple times, that’s not fair.” in the most annoyed tone. It did make me giggle and I told her I was sorry for her loss.

mom tried to help put to sleep our old dog with a bunch of sleeping pills and told me he died then woke up well over 24 hours later and lived for another 6 months

Our 1 year old cat died tragically and everyone cried. An hour after we buried him my 6 year old said “why are you crying so much?” I said because I’m going to miss him he said “yea but you’re crying too much” 💀

When my dog died my dad took us to toys r us and let us pick out whatever we wanted and then as soon as we walked into the door back home, news toys in hand, shoes and coats still on, my dad said “Moe passed away today” thanks dad 👍

I had a few fish die in my aquarium leaving 1 solo fish. My 3 year old asked about the other fish and without saying they died, I just said they were gone. He looks at the last fish in the tank and says “hey fishie, sorry all your friends died”.

My dog died about a year ago now and my nephew was 3 almost 4 when it happened. The things he has said the past year have been insane. Notable mention there was a dog in a neighbours yard barking and he asked what was that and we said it was roxy the dog next door and he goes "oh i thought it was daisy barking in the sky"....... he also will just randomly come up to you and say "did you know daisy is in the sky?" out of the blue

One of our 14 year old dogs died August of last year and at Christmas I put an ornament on the tree with his photo and my 3 year old looked at me and said: “why are you putting Cayne’s picture on the tree. He’s dead” I’m like yea girl I mean to remember him?? She’s like “oh ok. But he’s dead mommy” 🫠

My little brother once asked me about the "steak party" we had when he was really young and I had to break the news that he was remembering us putting our family dog down and us grilling him his favorite foods one last time 🥲

When we had to put our family dog down, my little brother was 3. My stepdad sat him down to explain we were going to take the dog to the vet and he wasn’t going to come back because he was going to heaven to be with grandpa. My brother said “ok…” looked down for a beat and goes “can I get a turtle now?” 😅 A little bit of much needed levity to a really sad moment
