@ww2cauldron: part 4 ; Crimea 1944: 17th Army Destroyed at Sevastopol in 35 Days Crimea 1944: 17th Army Destroyed at Sevastopol in 35 Days In 1941-42, it took the German war machine a two-hundred-and-fifty-day siege to break Sevastopol. In the spring of 1944, the Red Army undid all of it in thirty-five days. The Soviet Crimean offensive smashed through Perekop and the Sivash, raced across the peninsula, and stormed Sapun Ridge in a single day. The German Seventeenth Army was cornered on Cape Chersonese and annihilated, thousands drowning when the transports Totila and Teja were sunk.
