I went on an Alaskan cruise and we ended it in Canada. We had never been, so we decided to stay for 2 days there before we flew back home to the states. Outside our Airbnb (which had a 24/7 security guard in the building) we saw passed out people at all hours of the day. We witnessed a drug deal and a guy shoot up right in front of us. We did not feel safe walking anywhere to get food. Our first experience in Canada wasn’t that great.

The town I grew up in in NS NEVER had any homeless or encampments now they’re everywhere it’s absolutely insane

I’ve always lived in a small town and I moved to North Bay four years ago and I’ve already seen overdoses on the streets and I only go to town once maybe twice a month. She’s absolutely right.

I do not understand how you can ignore the drug problem in Canada. Different people can disagree as to how to fix it (way out of my wheelhouse), but you cannot ignore it. It’s heartbreaking and a total mess.

pre covid I rarely saw drug use out in the open, and I never saw the fentanyl bend. now, every time I drive through downtown, I see it everywhere

It’s definitely a problem in Canada and the US. It’s awful. We have certain faction of people and governments federal, provincial and municipal who want to take away resources that help harm reduction and OD’s like safe injection sites, testing of opioids, access to clean supply. The political will to fix this crisis is sadly not there
