He'd been trying to apologize to Granger for the incident during which she'd been struck by a spell intended for Potter, but it was difficult to find a moment when she wasn't accompanied by either Potter or, worse, Viktor Krum. "I'd like to tell you something, but I have no intention of forcing you to turn my monologue into a conversation." She watched him silently for a moment before smiling gently and, pushing out the chair next to her, said, "We're in the Malfoy school library. Even if I wanted to forbid you from sitting next to me... I have no right." After a moment, she added, "Come on, sit down. I'm curious what's so important that you've shown up in this section. Muggle Studies is beneath you, and History of Magic... we both know that few students devote time to that subject outside of class." He walked around the table and wordlessly sat down next to her. Draco was nervous, and it was becoming increasingly difficult to hide it. He tightened his fingers on the hem of his sweater before saying bluntly, "I wanted to apologize... I wanted to apologize for the fact that, because of my stupidity, you were hit with a spell intended for someone else." "Is that all?" Granger asked. Her face was expressionless. Before he could say anything, she added, "You announced a monologue. I wouldn't call a properly worded apology a monologue." When she finished, she smiled. Not with a smile intended for her friends, but still. "When I was picturing it in my head, it sounded different..." he admitted. "Besides, anything I wanted to add would sound like an excuse." "I appreciate the honesty," Granger said, looking him in the eye. "And the fact that you only apologized for what you felt guilty about. That's quite... refreshing." He started to get up to leave her alone, but she stopped him without a word. He'd spent almost two hours with her, written an overdue essay for Binns, and felt... something he shouldn't have felt.
