🥎 COACHES, LET’S TALK ABOUT POSTGAME SPEECHES. What is your goal when you bring your team together after a game? Are you trying to teach? Motivate? Correct mistakes? Build confidence? Hold players accountable? Or are you just talking because you feel like you’re supposed to? Here are a few questions I think every coach should ask themselves: 🥎 Does the game matter? Is your speech different after the first pool game compared to a tough bracket loss or a championship game? 🥎 Are you talking too long? At what point do your players stop listening and start thinking about what they’re eating after the game? 🥎 Are you saying enough? Are you missing opportunities to teach valuable lessons because you’re rushing to get everyone out of the huddle? 🥎 Are you speaking with purpose or emotion? Are you addressing what your team needs to hear, or are you just expressing your frustration? 🥎 What’s the ONE thing you want your players to walk away remembering? If they can’t tell you the main message of your speech, did you really accomplish anything? Here’s something I want coaches to think about: Not every game deserves the same speech. Sometimes your team needs accountability. Sometimes they need encouragement. Sometimes they need instruction. And sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is say very little. Your postgame speech shouldn’t just be about the game that was played. It should help prepare your athletes for what’s coming next. The goal isn’t to have the last word. The goal is to leave a lasting impact. 👇 COACHES, I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! How long are your postgame speeches? Do you approach pool games differently than bracket games? And what’s the ONE thing you want your players to take away from that huddle? #SoftballWithMargo #CoachingSoftball #SoftballCoach #TravelSoftball #CoachingTips
