i used the potluck metaphor a couple of days ago and a person tried to tell me that it was a terrible comparison because readers dont contribute anything. and i was there like. yeah, because we're losing fandom etiquette and nobody wants to kudo, comment or betaread, but the collaborative spirit IS what makes fandom. if not it's just content. some people simply arent made for fandom and that's fine, just dont bother us😭

I found one author who hid the sequel to their work unless you commented (and they had detailed exactly what should/shouldn’t be included in the comment) once they were satisfied with your comment they’d release it to you. It was the craziest thing I’ve ever seen.

I am SOOOOO done with authors right now. Either finish your fic or don’t but threatening the readers that you might not is an instant block. Furthermore, if you have a fic recommendation page and you recommend a WIP, and I go to that author’s profile and see 75 unfinished WIPs, I’m blocking you too. These serial unfinishers have ruined the community. Not the other way around. If you wanted us to engage, then don’t leave a fic unfinished. We are now only reading completed fics, which breaks the cycle of engaging during the process BECAUSE AUTHORS QUIT FINISHING FICS. The most anyone gets from me is a subscribe until it’s done.

I wrote 170k words of slow burn for just me and then one French legend who commented on every chapter, and I love them so much for that 💗 It’s a very unpopular fandom, so honestly was surprised to get even them. 😂

I read a fanfiction a few years ago, and it had a 200k+ word count. EVERY chapter had one comment from the same person who provided a deep analysis of the chapter itself. It was so beautiful. Like damn, this author probably continued onwards because of this one person

I don’t even write with readers in mind 90% of the time, because I’m almost always writing whatever I want to read that isn’t available from another author. I post it in case it tickles someone else’s fancy as well, but like, those readers owe me nothing more than I owe them 😭 tho I appreciate my readers heavily because they do encourage me to write more, knowing it’s not JUST me who enjoys it.

im seeing authors say that they don't even want to write anymore cause they're not getting comments and stuff and like that's their choice obviously but like writing fanfiction is a hobby?? you should do it cause you enjoy it?? not for validation?? also like sorry i genuinely get so absorbed in a fic that i forget that comments and kudos exist it's not something i can control

A gift is not even something to be saying "Oh my God, thank you I wouldn't know how to live without this!" for IF is something that wasn't ask for socially (like birthdays to give an example), if you're giving something out of kindness you shouldn't be like "When does my parade for the BEST person ever starts?"

I hate it when ppl persecute you over having preferences. like I'm so sorry I don't want to have to go thru the emotional conundrum that us reading an incomplete fic and just filter then out. or if I say I prefer fics over a certain word limit, like the actual problem arises when you actively go into these ppls comment sections and say smth like ' make this longer' but like who does it affect when I filter these things out?? like it isn't my personal job to be your motivation to update just as it isn't yours to update in the first place
