I read AB first and wish I would have done it 3rd before heir of fire, that’s what my husband did and we agree it’s the best! You will love it no matter what, just start don’t worry to much about it as long as you read it before queen of shadows!

First off, jealous you’re reading this for the first time. It’s life changing😭 I’m team Assassin’s blade first. That’s how I read it & I feel like it’s the best way because it’s the main characters back story and how she got to the point she is at the start on throne of glass if that make sense! I also tandem read TOD/EOS and I recommend doing that as well as they are taking place at the same time in the story.

THRONE OF GLASS it’s literally the authors preference AND the order of publishing. AB is a prequel, you’re not suppose to know everything about Celaenas backstory right off the bat. It’s the correct story telling unfolding to read it in publishing order 🥹 *my opinion but also the literal author’s!!*

I read Assassin’s Blade first and I regret it!!! I wish I’d read it how SJM intended which is publishing order. It makes the story more gut wrenching!!! Read it in publishing order!!

Assassins blade first, it gives the background from where Throne of Glass starts. Otherwise you’re going backwards after a few books. That’s the reasoning

The first time I read a long time ago TOG first for reread I have done AB first. I say it’s a personal preference. I the storyline being in order is super important to you AB first. TOG first for the most emotionally impactful.

Personally, I think you should read it before heir of fire. I chose to read it there and it left some mystery through the first couple books. People say read it first so he haunts the narrative but honestly I feel like when you read it before heir of fire you are attached to celaena and know more about her current situation. To me it just makes more sense when you read it third. If I read it first I probably would have been a bit confused.

I am a very very OG fan, like started reading them before Queen of shadows came out in 2015. My recommendation was publication order. Read TOG first, and then read TAB after COM or HOF. That is how SJM recommends it
