@imalawyerinreallife: Hyde-Smith's lawyers told every county to hold on to the affidavit ballots for a possible fight in front of the U.S. Senate. That's Article I, Section 5. The state counts and certifies, but the Senate decides who gets seated. In 1974 it threw out a 2-vote win and sent New Hampshire back to the polls.
