. . . Among western Sudan tribes, girls are adorned with jewelry before marriage, which is considered an essential part of the social & cultural preparations associated with marriage ceremonies. Jewelry is considered a symbol of femininity and an indicator of a family's status and financial standing. This necklace consists of five distinct layers and is considered one of the most prominent pieces of traditional jewelry in Sudan. It is worn in western Sudan in this form using a shell layer. All of these elements are amulets worn for protection against the evil eye and envy, arranged from top to bottom: *Al Saava *The Shell *Al Nuqqar *Al Shaf *Al Shaf It's worth noting that these necklaces are not exclusive to western Sudan but are also known to many other tribes in Sudan with the same names and beliefs associated with them, with differences in the way they are worn and coordinated, reflecting the unity of culture & diversity.
