In the early hours of 19 March 2020, just before Britain’s first COVID lockdown, she was waiting at a bus stop on Altmore Avenue when James Sinclair approached and stabbed her seven times. She was rushed to hospital but tragically passed from her injuries. The attack appeared to be completely unprovoked. The following day, Sinclair attacked another woman, who survived. In July 2022, he was convicted of Shadika’s murder and the attempted murder of the second woman. He received a life sentence with a minimum term of 41 years.
