@bbuilder58: Three weeks ago, we had Icelandic chicken eggs shipped all the way from Wisconsin to Ohio, and we had no idea if any of them would actually make it. Shipping fertile eggs can be risky because of all the handling, shaking, and temperature changes along the way. Chicken eggs usually take about 21 days to hatch, and once a chick starts breaking through the shell, it can still take many hours before it fully comes out. After all the waiting, we finally had Icelandic chicks hatch, and it was so exciting to wake up and see that first little chick! Now we’re waiting to see if more of the eggs will hatch too. We already had our homemade brooder ready with heat, food, water, and fresh bedding for them. And if you’re thinking about raising chickens yourself, our chicken coop building plans are linked in our bio, and we’re also working on a full step-by-step building video! #IcelandicChickens #HatchingEggs #ChickenCoop

I’ve been anxiously waiting! This is wonderful!

dukey :

The old question- which came first, the chicken or the egg? An egg cannot take care of itself.

I love the idea of raising my own chickens, if I had the property, but I do know that birds have an overwhelming smell that I can not handle. I know all animals have a scent, but birds scent is one I can not handle. But good for you!!!

Grey_Wanderer ᛗ :

Awesome! I'm really hoping the rest of them hatch for you.
