@c4news: Israel President Isaac Herzog has given opposition candidate Gadi Eisenkot the first chance to form a governing coalition following the country’s elections. Eisenkot, a former military chief and leader of the Yashar party, ran as the main challenger to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. If he’s able to successfully form a coalition, Eisenkot will become Israel’s next prime minister. Herzog’s move comes after lengthy talks with parties in the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, following the elections on October 27, which left a deadlock as neither Eisenkot nor Netanyahu won a clear majority in the vote.
