i agree that xenophobia toward muslims in mexico is a serious problem that deserves to be addressed on its own. but sharing a nationality isn’t synonymous with sharing the same views on immigration. mexicans expressing prejudice toward muslims aren’t necessarily the same people defending mexican immigrants in the u.s. in my own experience, some of those expressing these nationalist attitudes also question whether mexicans who leave the country are “really mexican.” that’s only a personal observation, but it’s why i think we should be careful about framing this as hypocrisy without knowing whether the same people hold both of those views

I think it's important to understand that not all Mexicans think the same way. One woman does not represent an entire country or an entire population. And honestly, as a Mexican, I've experienced situations where I've gone back to my own hometown in Mexico and been yelled at by a white man in my own country. So I understand that sometimes people get tired of feeling judged, disrespected, or made to feel like they don't belong. But that doesn't mean we should turn around and treat another group of people the same way. Mexico belongs to Mexicans, but that doesn't mean we have to be intolerant of people with different religions or backgrounds.You can love Mexico, respect its culture, and still respect Muslims and their right to practice Islam. We don't have to agree on religion to treat each other with humanity. And please don't assume that one woman's opinions represent all Mexicans. Many of us see things differently.

The people that immigrate from Mexico to the US are very different from those who stay in Mexico and have those opinions. A lot of them look down on those who were poor and had to immigrate to the US for opportunities.

Some of my family members are very discriminatory towards southern Americans bc of the big migration problem of them trying to get to the US 🥲 It's very upsetting and disheartening hearing such horrible language used against migrants, because I see it all the time in the US, having faced that 🥲 somos todos una gente
