@vagabondartist: Given the influx of anti-Muslim social media posts before and after the election, it’s a good time to remember what it was like traveling through Muslim majority countries. #muslim #islam #turkiye #travel #kindess
As a flight attendant and fellow traveler, you are 100% correct. People shock me with their bigotry at times

Loved your story. As you know, Mark Twain said “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness”

A hijabi in Malaysia offered to drive me (young white solo male) to my hotel from the airport in 2015 when my debit card wasn’t letting me withdraw cash. She also gave me money so I could get dinner before having to get my card working. No questions asked; she just saw a need. I still think of her frequently even though I can’t remember her name or what she looked like or what car she drove.

As a child growing up in the Midwest, it was the people who looked like me who bullied me relentlessly. It was the Vietnamese and Muslim (sadly I didn’t learn where she was from as a young child) immigrants who were my friends. There was a language barrier so we couldn’t communicate much, but we ate lunch together every day and there was more kindness and acceptance displayed at that table than in the rest of that lunchroom.

Absolutely correct. Lived in Guatemala for two years, met people from around the world. Loved the locals. Many of them were the best, and most friendly people I have ever met

I wish more Americans could open their minds! Travel if possible, make an attempt to meet others from different cultures, get to know them. It’s just awful here with that hate. But I’m very hopeful now after Tues! 💙💙💙
