@builderbrigade: 🔥 Where your fireplace heat goes is one of 850+ decisions in my checklist 👉 BuilderBrigade.com
Builder: @DfwCustomHomeBuilder
Fireplace: @napoleonfireplace
Three vents on one fireplace. Only one of them is exhaust.
The center vent is the exhaust. It runs straight out through the roof.
The two side vents are for heat. The fireplace sits inside a metal box, and that box gets hot. Instead of trapping that heat in the wall, these vents send it back into the room. It also keeps the wall above cooler, which matters if a TV goes there.
You get to pick where it comes out. Vents on the sides, or vents up top so the heat spreads across the whole room. If you want to get fancy.. a powered version has a fan that pushes the heat out, and it can even send it into the room behind the fireplace.
If you're a builder in the DFW and have a bad ass house I gotta see. Hit me up. My contact info is on my site 🤝

Mine doesn’t have a vent and I’m afraid to use it. They say it’s ventless but how is that safe?

Yay. My mother has a gas fireplace at her house and it is vented into the living room. It’s nice.

Our woodstove has these, called “heatilator”, you can switch it to blowing out the base, into the ducts or both.

100% Nay…. Why vent into your living room where the fire is? Is the fire not producing enough heat. If you vent into another room…. Maybe. But absolute waste otherwise. Has this person never been in a room with a lit fireplace? Has this person been in a room with a lit candle? The room gets hot… stupid hot.
