@towerdocs: Starlink Mobile: Phones Already Connect to Satellites Phones already connect to satellites through supported services such as T-Mobile T-Satellite. That does not make ground-based 5G redundant. Satellite access and terrestrial capacity do different jobs; device eligibility, features and clear-sky conditions still matter. T-Mobile describes direct-to-cell satellites as complementing its existing network. Its support page recommends being outdoors with a clear view of the sky; mountains, canyons, trees and buildings can affect the connection. It also says satellite connections are not always instant, this is not high-speed data, and some app functions may differ or be unavailable. A phone’s ability to connect to a satellite does not make ground-based 5G unnecessary. SpaceX’s separate Qualcomm agreement concerns a U.S. terrestrial 5G rollout planned to begin in 2027. Do not assume today’s T-Satellite eligibility, features or service terms are identical to the future Starlink Mobile retail offering.
