He dreamed of becoming extraordinary, not just for the recognition, but to become someone whose existence could make a difference. Someone younger athletes could look toward for inspiration, someone teammates could trust in their darkest moments, and someone who could turn their hope into something greater. I’ve come to understand that champions aren’t defined solely by victories. They’re defined by their willingness to remain relentless when the world gives them every reason to stop. It’s the determination to rise after disappointment, to keep believing when the results haven’t arrived, and to continue pursuing something even when the outcome is uncertain. I made a decision long ago that my circumstances, my fears, and the expectations of others would never write the ending to my story. I would determine how far this dream could go. Sometimes, before a race, I close my eyes and imagine the distance between the child I once was and the athlete I aspire to become. I see that younger version of myself, carrying dreams he couldn’t yet explain, and I see the Olympic champion I hope to become someday. I tell myself that one day, the world will recognize the name that was once known only to a little boy with an enormous dream. And when that moment comes, I want to know that I earned every bit of it. When I step onto that starting line, I remind myself that fear doesn’t get a place in my lane. Doubt doesn’t get a voice in my head. There is a purpose behind every step, a reason behind every sacrifice, and a promise that I refuse to abandon. I will never forget the night I looked at my future and decided that I was going to pursue it regardless of how impossible it seemed. That night became a turning point. It wasn’t a guarantee of success; it was a commitment to never stop giving myself a chance. Now, standing here with a 16:29 PR, sixth place at League, and a place at CIF, I realize that the journey is becoming something I once could only imagine. But I’m not chasing a finish line. I’m chasing the person I promised myself I would become. To the little boy who once wondered if he could become somebody: keep dreaming. Your story is still being written.
