As a usmc range coach, every marine is in fact, not a rifleman. They can mostly provide great suppressive fire, but that’s most of their capabilities.

Every Marine is a rifleman first; meaning regardless of your MOS you are trained to engage the enemy, regardless if you actually do or not.

No, it’s smoke and mirrors like most the corps. Not combat Mos’s spend a week at the range a year, or once every 2 if you get expert. Too many give pit love anyways — but that’s ok. As a prior intel marine, why tf would I want to be a rifleman? I’d rather sit in the AC, conduct and provide strike packages while deployed v larping in full kit on Okinawa as most 03’s do. Can I shoot a rifle? Sure. But I and most support jobs are not rifleman and we don’t want to be. Same token — majority of 03’s can’t do office gigs but can run exercises in the field. Everyone has a place.

There are 2 difference kinds of training in Camp Pendleton after boot camp, MCT and SOI, one last weeks and one last months, so one those do not come remotely close to a rifleman training and there is the difference and your answer.

No, we are all basically trained rifleman. Every Marine trains with a rifle and is expected to know how to put rounds on target. That is objectively a rifleman lol

In the army we are all soldiers before our MOS. That is as a trained rifleman. Even more so in the marine corps.

When you're in the fighting hole, and laying down suppressive fire, the enemy isn't going to say it's ok the supply clerk is shooting back at us,no the enemy is going to say keep your head down the Marines are fighting us

In 86 when I graduated from boot camp I was a basic rifleman. I then went on to ITS to become an 0311 and then my permanent duty station of Lima company 3rd battalion 8th Marines allowed me to play with my M249 for the next 3 years. So YES every MARINE is a basic rifleman.

Our whole unit crosstrained. Everyone was a Rifleman. Cooks, comm, admin.... Guess it depends on the unit

As a former coach on the rifle range, 99.9% of the Marines could shoot the rifle without an issue even from 500 yards with iron sites, Marine 01-06.

Whay weapon did he qual on annually, rifle maybe? That makes you a rifleman, correct?.... Fairly easy concept being that's how it litterally works.....

I was an airframe mechanic of the CH-46, deployed to Iraw 07'. Afterwards being discharged, went into LE. Smoked everyone going through the academy, became an instructor across all platforms and served on swat where I had to pull the trigger to save 2 lives. I can most definitely say, I was only successful in my LE career bc of the shooting principles I learned in the Marines. So my answer is yes, without a doubt.

I thought this was in regard to every marine either doing SOI or MCT. Also we range qual every year and I know the navy score requirements are way lower. You can also get TAD’d to many different things like machine gunner courses etc. It depends if you seek that out but again I thought it was the baseline training we learn after boot camp.

Was an 0311 for 10 years, there isn’t a better job or choice. If you’re joining, join as a 03 then do what ever the fuck you want after.
