@nigeria24live: Nigeria becomes first African nation to win U-17 Women’s World Cup. (NAIJA TV Sports) - Nigeria’s Flamingos have officially won the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, defeating Japan 2-1 in a thrilling final at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat, Morocco. With this monumental victory, #Nigeria has made history as the first-ever African nation to win the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. #AwawuBashiru provided the breakthrough in the 39th minute, unleashing a spectacular long-range effort that flew into the net and sent the Flamingos into half-time with a 1-0 lead. Straight out of the interval, Oluebube Umejiaku showed ultimate composure in the 47th minute to double the advantage and put Nigeria firmly in control. Japan, however, refused to go quietly. The former champions pulled a goal back late from an Ito corner kick, setting up a tense and nervy finish in Rabat. The resilient Flamingos held firm through the final whistle, throwing themselves into every challenge and defending with discipline as the clock ran down, before erupting in celebration at the sound of the referee’s whistle. The historic milestone shatters the country’s previous tournament-best third-place finish in 2022 and marks a transformative era for African women’s football on the global stage. Having already become the first African side to reach the final, Nigeria have now gone one step further, bringing a first world title home and setting a new benchmark for the continent’s youth development. #nigeria24 #naijatvsports
