@viralsanctuarysports: WAS IT A TOUCHDOWN? Fourth and 6, game on the line, Miami down 31-24 at Notre Dame. Darian Mensah floats it to Elija Lofton in the end zone. Two feet down. Ball in his hands. Then Luke Talich knocks it loose, the refs call it incomplete, and the review upholds it. No touchdown. No tie game. Notre Dame ball. Miami coach Mario Cristobal after the game: two hands on the ball, two feet inbounds, and zero explanation from the officials. Canes fans are calling it a robbery. Irish fans say the ball has to survive the play. Our take: this is the call everyone will argue about all week, because the whole game turned on it. One score ties it. One call ended it. Why wasn't it a touchdown?
The key was the NCAA's catch rule. A receiver must: 1. Secure firm control of the ball. 2. Get a body part down in bounds.
3. Maintain control long enough to perform an act common to the game (such as advancing the ball or avoiding a defender).

Not a catch. Had it happened over the middle of the field and ND had recovered loose ball Miami would have been claiming it wasn’t a catch because of the very reasons it wasn’t here. Not a hard call.

know your rules must maintain control throughout the catch even if its in the endonzone going out of bounds and both
