@browneyedgurl801: Kylie Arellano was 15 when she vanished from her family’s home in Garden City, Utah, on the night of May 29, 2025. She had texted her mother, Stephanie Coleman, a goodnight message; minutes later her phone went dark, and her jacket turned up abandoned in the driveway the next morning. Federal prosecutors say Adam Hunter Harmel, 39, had met her on Snapchat, offered her money to travel, then drove to Perry, Utah, to pick her up. According to the complaint, he threw her phone into a river in Logan Canyon, drove her to his home in Huntington, Oregon, and told her she could not leave. For more than 500 days, the FBI and the Rich County Sheriff’s Office chased leads across the country and overseas with nothing to show for it. Then Harmel made a mistake. He gave Arellano a phone restricted to Wi-Fi only, apparently so she could stay occupied. In mid-October 2026, she used it to log into Among Us. Inside the game’s chat, she told another minor her real name and said a man was holding her against her will. That player told a parent, and the parent called the FBI. Agents located Arellano at Harmel’s residence and rescued her on November 1, 2026, after 521 days in captivity. Investigators reportedly found a kn*fe Harmel had used to threaten her, corroborating her account. The Deseret News reports the FBI described the case as involving “nihilistic violent extremism.” Harmel now faces federal charges. Social media users have widely praised the young player and the parent who acted on a stranger’s message in a video game lobby, calling it the break that finally ended an 18-month search.
