In 1921, in the mountains of the Rif, Mohammed ben Abdelkrim El Khattabi led a resistance movement that inflicted a major defeat on the Spanish army at the Battle of Annual. As leader of the Republic of the Rif, he sought to unite the tribes and defend their independence against colonial rule. After years of war, a joint French-Spanish offensive forced him to surrender in 1926. His struggle remains a symbol of resistance, dignity, and freedom in the history of the Rif. #rif #morocco #imazighen #resistance #maghreb
